Sakura Dress – Embroidery Practice

EmbroideryPractice009

This weekend I got to spend some time working on my Sakura dress again. I was pretty sure that I’d worked out how I wanted to do the embroidery & flowers, but really wanted to spend some time practising the techniques, before I started, just to be sure.

The branches are embroidered using cotton embroidery thread (two strands), & the flowers are silk ribbon embroidery, (technique from this book). I haven’t decided how to make the stamen of the flowers yet. At the moment I’m thinking of some different beading ideas.

My embroidery is a little wonky but it’s getting better. Plus cherry tree branches are a little wonky, so it just makes it more authentic… right?!

Here’s some more photos of the process & underside.
