Gertie’s Book & Sewaholic Patterns

I'm at home sick today & feeling pretty miserable in general, so I spent this afternoon persuing my favourite 'I'm feeling super lazy' activity, sitting on the couch with my laptop cruising the internets. Before you ask, the answer is no my internet has not been connected yet. But my impatience lead to me geeking … Read more

Moving House

I’ve been a little absent from the blogging world over the last week or so because my husband and I have been busy moving house. We bought it a few weeks back and settled last week. It’s been really exciting for us. We’re all moved in now and once the Internet gets connected I’ll be … Read more

Vintage Wool Skirt

This plan of 'exposing' my basket of shame is really working! So far I've conquered two of the four unfinished projects I have. Though I did spend most of this morning thinking about acceptable reasons to break my rule about not cutting the Shenzhen fabric until I moved. The good news is I didn't.  This … Read more

I’ll get you next time Heidi!

I’ve been thwarted again by the BurdaStyle Heidi dress. Last time I ran out of fabric… granted that one was more my fault that the dress’. This time though the issue is size. The first time I made a 42, according to the sizing chart on the pattern, this is my size. To be honest … Read more

I’m a Featured Member*

I woke up this morning & was SUPER excited to see that I am this week's 'featured member' on BurdaStyle! You can check out the article here. *To all my uni friends, I couldn't resist this title for the blog. Who could forget the two years of joking around in solid mechanics.

Unfinished Projects

All Wrapped Up

A couple of years ago I got a Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dress, (which I subsequently wore to the races about 3 times, the picture above was taken at the Caulfield Cup). It was my first introduction to silk jersey & I fell in love with it. It is such a lovely fabric to wear … Read more

Patterns, Patterns, Patterns!

Remember I mentioned that I got stuck in the countryside a couple of weeks ago when my car broke down? Anyway, one of the positives that came out of it was I found lots of op shops (second hand stores for the internationals out there) filled with super cheap patterns! I ended up coming home with about 12 *new* patterns.

Into the Trenches

After a couple of long flights I’m home & am starting to go through all the fabric I brought home. In Shenzhen I bought material for two trench coats. The first in a classic beige, the second in a nice teal. I was really happy to find these, I’d been looking for good trench coat material for months in Melbourne, but had struggled to find any. BUT, in Shenzhen I was spoilt for choice.

I <3 Shenzhen

See this case. It's FILLED with fabric. I'm in Hong Kong at the moment and wanted to go fabric shopping. So I hired a shopping guide and went over the border into China to go shopping. I was taken to Shenzhen shopping mall (famous for the secret stores & pirated leather goods) where there is … Read more
